WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry says he plans
to make a payment on his tax debt in the coming week.
Barry, a D.C. Council member, says that two-thirds of the more
than $277,000 he owes in back taxes is made up of interest and
penalties. He also says he intends to pay on Monday $4,250 on his
2007 D.C. tax bill.
Prosecutors asked a judge in February to send Barry to jail
after he didn't file his 2007 tax returns on time, violating his
probation for previous offenses. A hearing is scheduled for next
